If you are installing an LED lighting system at home, then you will need an even and smooth power supply that will ensure the efficient and safe operation of LED lighting. The power supply takes care of converting the voltage into volts corresponding to LED strips parameters. What are the types of power supplies?

How to choose the most suitable power source?

When choosing an LED power source, we recommend paying attention to the following features of the device:

Tension - deciding which one power supply for the LED strip is the most suitable, we recommend considering its output voltage rating. On the strip of LED lights you will always find a marking indicating its power (W). The indicator marked on the LED strips indicates the power consumed per meter (W/m). For example, typical LED strips consume between 4,8 and 30 watts (W). Use this simple formula to calculate: Multiply the watts per meter by the amount of meters you will use, then add 20% or more in reserve. The resulting number will indicate the power (W) of the power supply you need. It is normal that the number you get will not always coincide with the indicators of power supplies sold, but in this case you should choose the power supply that provides more power. For example, if your LED strip power figure is 83W, then choose a power supply with 100W or more. In this way, the power source will not run out, and the device, in this case the LED strip, will consume only the required amount of 83 W of electricity.

Size - LED power supplies can be of different shapes and sizes, which is especially relevant when the space in which you intend to install the device is limited. In this case, we advise you to choose ultra-thin power supplies, the dimensions of which are better adapted to narrow spaces. This category of power supplies features short-circuit or overvoltage protection and a high resistance class, and the device does not require air circulation for cooling.

Dimerization – if you are looking for power sources with dimming capability, you need to make sure that the LED lights or LED strip you are using also has this feature. The dimming function will allow you to adjust the intensity and brightness of the light, so the lighting of your rooms can change during the day according to your wishes. Certain LED controllers also have a timer function that takes the lighting options to an even higher level.

Resistance class (English Protection mark) - stands for IP and indicates the applicability of the power source in various weather conditions and environmental stimuli. This means that depending on the specified IP rating, the power supply can be more or less resistant to dust, moisture or physical contact. The first number indicates protection against solid particles and the second number indicates protection against liquid ingress.
